McCarthy signs extension at Ipswich

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor have agreed new deals to stay Portman Road.

McCarthy and the Tractor Boys are in the hunt for consecutive play-off finishes in the Championship, having fell short of Wembley last season against arch-rivals Norwich.

The former Republic of Ireland and Sunderland manager has had his prior contract extended by 12 months to 2018, with the Ipswich board adding clauses that will allow them to extend the pair’s contract to 2020.

McCarthy said: “TC [Connor] and I are obviously delighted to have extended our contracts.

“We are really enjoying the job here and the results on the pitch have improved year on year. In a relentless and tough league that the Championship is, that is testament to the hard work the players have put in,” the 56-year-old added.

Town managing director Ian Milne told the club website: “It’s obviously great news that Mick and Terry have agreed contract extensions.

“We have also signed up a number of our players on long term contracts over the past year or so who have been at core of the team, and with Terry and Mick in charge of that team we will continue to have a stable foundation to build on over the coming seasons.”
