Orient appoint Kevin Nolan as player-manager

Leyton Orient have announced Kevin Nolan as player-manager on a contract running to the summer of 2018.

The midfielder succeeds Ian Hendon at Brisbane Road not long after Hendon revealed he had tried to sign Nolan last ahead of the January transfer window.

The former Bolton Wanderers captain has been without a club since being released by Slaven Bilic at West Ham, and joins the O’s having started coaching courses last Spring.

The 33-year-old will take training on Thursday and is rumoured to be lining up Wally Downes as his assistant at E10.

A club statement read: “The club are extremely pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Nolan as the new player-manager on a two-and-a-half year deal.

“Kevin brings with him invaluable expertise and know-how, with 17 years’ experience in high level football.

“A number of strong candidates were interviewed by the chairman, but Kevin’s hunger, desire and passion to succeed at Leyton Orient, coupled with his experience, were key in the decision process and the club believe they have the man to take Leyton Orient forward and improve the club’s position.
