Newport County allow Oldham to speak to Sheridan

Following the sacking of David Dunn yesterday evening the Oldham board have moved swiftly to find a replacement by speaking to Newport County manager John Sheridan.

Sheridan only took over at Rodney Parade at the start of October but has won five of his 17 matches in charge, which has helped the Welsh club pull away from the League Two drop zone.

A statement on the Newport County official website read, “the Board of Directors can confirm they have given formal permission for John to discuss the current vacant managerial position at Oldham Athletic”

The 51-year-old has a real affiliation with the Latics having played for the club 144 times. Sheridan was also the Oldham manager from 2006 to 2009, where he guided them to the League One play-offs.

After leaving Oldham Sheridan went on to have spells in charge of Chesterfield and Plymouth before joining Newport this season.
