Ling leaves after lifting Robins out of relegation zone and cites ‘health reasons’ for early exit

Martin Ling has resigned as manager of Swindon Town, citing ‘health reasons’ for his exit.

The 49-year-old was appointed on 3 November at the County Ground, his first role since leaving Torquay in April 2013 due to depression.

An advocate for mental health wellbeing, Ling said upon his arrival at the Robins that his depression had ‘gone’ and he was ‘really excited to restart a career’.

His new role at Swindon got off to a dream start with with five wins in six league games. His tenure, however, has lasted only 56 days with his last match in charge a 1-0 defeat to Burton on Monday.

The former Swindon and Leyton Orient midfielder leaves the club out 7 places higher in the league table than when he joined.

A statement is expected later today.
