Jak Alnwick signs new deal with Port Vale

by Hugo Varley

Port Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick has signed a new two-and-a-half year contract at the club.

The 22-year old’s contract was due to expire in January but Vale manager Rob Page is said to have been impressed with his performances this season.

“We’re absolutely delighted to have secured the future of Jak,” Page told the club’s official website.

“From the very first day he joined the club his talents were obvious and his performances have backed that up. This is a real coup for the football club.”

Since joining Port Vale in the summer from Newcastle United, Alnwick has started every game this season.

The goalkeeper told reporters: “I spoke to my agent and there were a few clubs sniffing around but I feel like I owe it to Port Vale and I’m desperate to stay here.

“They’ve been good to me so it’s time for me to show the faith in them and it’s a longer term contract which is nice which is going to make me work even harder.”

Port Vale are currently 11th in League One and face Graham Westley’s Peterborough on Saturday.
