David Dunn appointed as permanent Oldham Athletic manager

By Hugo Varley

Oldham Athletic have confirmed that David Dunn will become their manager on a permanent basis. The 35 year-old had been caretaker manager since Darren Kelly left the club in September.

Latics chairman Simon Corney told the club’s official website “The way (Dunn) has approached the role has made it impossible for us not to give him his chance

“We believe his ambition, skills and positive influence will be pivotal to the club’s progression”

Before taking up management, Dunn played for Birmingham, Blackburn and Oldham and won an England cap in 2012.

Oldham have struggled in League One this season and currently sit in 18th place, having gone ten league games without a win. Although Dunn has been unable to halt this win less run, he has achieved four commendable draws in his four games as caretaker manager, including a point away at high flying Gillingham on Saturday.

Oldham fans will be hoping that Dunn’s appointment will spur the team on to an overdue win when they face Scunthorpe on Saturday.
