Pressley appointed new Fleetwood boss

By Hugo Varley

Fleetwood Town have appointed Steven Pressley as their new manager. The 41 year-old has previously managed at Hearts, Falkirk and Coventry City and was heavily linked with the Dundee United job last week.

Pressley enjoyed a successful playing career before taking up management, playing for both Rangers and Celtic and earning 32 caps for the Scottish national team.

The Cod Army have had a difficult start to League One and parted ways with Graham Alexander last week with the club sitting in the relegation zone.

At a news conference today, Fleetwood chairman Andy Piley said “I am really pleased with the appointment. Steven has done an excellent job in incredibly difficult circumstances at the two football clubs he has been at before.

“We truly believe given the stability, the continuality and the facilities we have at Fleetwood Town, we have all ingredients to supply any manager with a great opportunity and we think Steven will be a great success.

“Steven is very hard working, he is intelligent and he has his own ideas how the game should be played which appeals to myself personally and the other senior management within the club.”

It is expected that caretaker manager Chris Lucketti will continue to take charge of the team for tonight’s match against Shrewsbury in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
