WIGAN Athletic director Gregor Rioch says returning hero Jensen Weir helped to save the club from extinction.
The 22-year-old midfielder, signed from Brighton for an undisclosed fee on Thursday, joined the Latics at eight and became the club’s youngest-ever player when he made his debut aged 15.
But after fly-by-night owner Au Yeung plunged the club into administration in 2020, Weir was sold to the Premier League Seagulls for £500,000 in a desperate bid to raise cash.
