WATFORD were just a small provincial club when pop star Elton John took over as chairman and declared he wanted to take them into the First Division.
The club had tumbled into Division Four when a lack of cash had forced them to sell many of their best players, but that didn’t put off the flamboyant showman John.
Once his feet had settled under the table, The Rocket Man pulled off the masterstroke of appointing one of the best young managers in the country, Graham Taylor, to fulfil his dreams.
