SLICE OF GLORY: Sunderland savour their Papa John’s Trophy success

IT TOOK almost half a century so you can understand why Sunderland savoured every moment of winning at Wembley again last Sunday.
Lynden Gooch clinically fired home the only goal of the Papa John’s Trophy final against Tranmere shortly before the hour mark, having been released by an exquisite Aiden McGeady through ball.
The last time the Black Cats had won at Wembley was in 1973 when they famously beat Leeds in the FA Cup final. They had lost seven finals since.
