SHREWSBURY played the role of party-poopers to perfection on Tuesday night – to deny Doncaster a Christmas Number One. Rovers would have topped the table at Christmas if they’d beaten the Shrews, but the visitors dug deep to earn a precious 1-0 win and climb out of the relegation zone.
Aaron Pierre headed home on 53 minutes from Shaun Whalley’s free-kick to net the all-important goal as Steve Cotterill’s men followed up their impressive scalps at Hull and Lincoln by the same scoreline.
Salop boss Cotterill, who saw his side climb to 16th place, said:
