TOP-CLASS WINGER IS A JOY TO WATCH…

WHEN I go to watch a football match, I want to see players doing things that take my breath away. Skill. Tricks. Beating men.
At the top level, though, I just don’t think it’s as much of an entertainment industry as it was in my day.
When I played, you had proper wingers.
A wing-back now and then. Gradually, though, it’s progressed to a point where everybody plays some variant on 4-3-3.
Now, the 7 and 11 are floating players. When you get it right - like Mo Salah and Sadio Mane at Liverpool - it can lead to a lot of goals.
