VAR IN THE EFL? NOT IN CURRENT STATE…

LAST weekend’s controversy over VAR illustrated once again why the EFL is better off without a system still mired in development hell.
Tottenham’s Giovani Lo Celso’s stamp on Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta - missed by the referee - was bizarrely dismissed as an accident by VAR ref David Coote.
It evidently wasn’t, and Stockley Park eventually issued a statement admitting that Coote had blundered. All of which makes a mockery of the whole concept.
VAR was designed to eliminate refereeing errors at the cost of delays and disruption to the fl ow of play.
