TOM Clifford is learning quickly after being thrown into Southend’s relegation battle, according to boss Sol Campbell.
The 20-year-old left-back had started the Shrimpers’ last five matches heading into Saturday’s clash with Burton.
Campbell said: “Tom’s got a great head on him, he’s got a bit of character about him and has played well.
“He’s still learning but he’s matured a lot. He’s confident, calm, gets a tackle in and can also play a bit.
