The Football League Paper says… It’s crunch time for cups

IT APPEARS we are heading towards a crossroads in this country with regards to cup football – and sooner or later big decisions are going to have to be made over which direction we take.
Older readers will remember the days when the FA Cup was the jewel in the crown.
It was a little bit of jam to go with the bread and butter of the league. The dream was to knock out one of the game’s giants or go all the way, depending on the size of your club.
The top players would always play – it was a chance to win silverware after all – and bumper crowds would turn out.
