DID anyone hold a gun to Roland Duchatelet’s head and order him to buy Charlton Athletic? Of course not.
The Belgian businessman decided to buy the club of his own free will in 2014, adding to his portfolio of clubs. At that time, the Addicks were in the Championship and Duchatelet might have thought there was an opportunity to take them into the moneybags Premier League.
He may well have felt he could guide Charlton to a brighter future and prosper financially at the same time.
