READ an interview with Michael Appleton the other week. He told a story of being invited to see Alex Ferguson, for whom he had played at Manchester United in his early playing days, a month after his short spell in charge of Blackburn Rovers had come to an end in 2013.
Appleton sat down in Ferguson’s office, he said, and was shocked when he was treated to ten minutes of the famous hairdryer treatment. Why? He had failed to do his due diligence on the Venky’s, Blackburn’s incompetent owners.
