THIS game was a microcosm of Chesterfield’s season. An inability to clear their lines properly cost them dear and it is now 17 games since the Spireites last kept a clean sheet in League Two.
The next manager has a huge task to rebuild the squad after back-to-back relegations, with the club set to compete outside of the Football League for the first time in 97 years.
The performance was a brave one, however, and Chesterfield will have a chance to reconcile themselves with their fans in their last home game of the season against Newport.
