BOTHAM STEPS UP FOR THE IRON

HONOUR: Sir Ian Botham

SCUNTHORPE have appointed Sir Ian Botham, their former player, as club president.
The 62-year-old, who scored more than 5,000 Test runs and took 383 Test wickets for England during a glittering 20-year career, also had two forays into football, making 11 appearances for the Iron between 1980 and 1985, playing at centre-back.
‘Beefy’, who also made 17 appearances for Yeovil between 1978 and 1980, succeeds former president John Godfrey, who died in 2015 at the age of 67. Scunthorpe chairman Peter Swann said: “We had a table ...
