SAMMIE Szmodics earned praise from head coach John McGreal after his goals helped Colchester United beat Exeter City and close in on the play-off places.
The U’s leading scorer bagged two and also had a hand in their opener which deflected in off defender Troy Archibald- Henville as they saw off their promotion-chasing opponents to draw level with seventhplaced Coventry.
Substitute Jayden Stockley replied in the second half for Exeter but it proved only a consolation for the Grecians.
