AS Sheffield United celebrate tying starlet David Brooks to a four-year contract, spare a thought for poor old Chesterfield.
But for Brooks’ stellar showing at the Toulon tournament in June, the 20- year-old midfielder would have been strutting his stuff at the Proact this season.
A loan deal, agreed as part of Ched Evans’ return to Bramall Lane, was drawn up and ready to be signed. Spireites director Ashley Carson even went public to announce Brooks was “very happy” with the arrangement.
