Last week, BBC4 aired a fascinating documentary about Ross Ulbricht, the mastermind behind Silk Road, a now defunct drug trading website on the dark web.
Those who knew Ulbricht said he was idealistic and compassionate, an all-round nice guy.
Yet when $350,000 was stolen by an associate, Ulbricht calmly ordered his assassination.
Out of character? Yes. But ...
