We need this place rocking – Karl Robinson calls for Salford support

Karl Robinson called on the locals to back their team after Salford came from 3-0 down to earn a thrilling 3-3 Sky Bet League Two draw with Bromley.

Trailing to a Cameron Congreve double and Michael Cheek’s 14th league goal of the season with less than half an hour remaining, Salford recovered to earn a share of the spoils.

Matty Lund – on his 150th appearance for the Peninsula Stadium side – scored one and then played his part in Cole Stockton’s 92nd-minute leveller. Lewis Warrington sparked the comeback with Salford’s first after 61 minutes.

But only 2,112 watched the drama, with Robinson asking for greater backing after the game.

“I have never done this since I have been here,” he said. “But we need more people in this stadium.

“We need this place full and rocking. This is a unique stadium and is parallel to what the area stands for.

“This is who we are and we need the local people to get in here to drive this team to the next level,” added Robinson, suggesting Manchester United fans boycott Friday’s FA Cup tie with Leicester to back Salford’s play-off bid against Tranmere on Saturday.

Comeback

On the comeback, he added: “We showed tremendous togetherness and belief.

“We didn’t whimper away. Maybe in the past it might have been a complete defeat but I thought it was a tremendous testament to my players’ attitude.”

Congreve fired Bromley into a 13th-minute lead and Cheek doubled the advantage six minutes from half-time.

Robinson introduced three substitutes at half-time in a bid to inspire a fightback but Welshman Congreve netted again six minutes after the restart.

However, Bromley could not complete the job as Warrington’s effort sparked the great escape.

Ravens boss Andy Woodman said: “There is an art to winning at places like this.

“To put yourself 3-0 up, you can’t then get bored of doing the ugly stuff that is needed to see the game out.

“To go 3-0 and look like we are in complete control, it is disappointing to lose three goals.

“It’s a point away from home and I have got to try and take the positives. But I am struggling. We got three goals away from home so we should have three points, but we haven’t quite done that.

“Credit to Salford for staying in the game but we created our own problems again.

“They had three good chances in the first half. So I don’t think we took our foot off the gas.

“It was a game of doing the basics well and putting the ball in the right areas.”
