Struggling Grimsby Town face AFC Wimbledon away at the Cherry Red Records Stadium on Tuesday looking to build on a win in their last league outing.

After securing all three points with a 1-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers on Saturday, the Mariners sit 21st in League Two.

They travel to play a Wimbledon side 10th in the standings, who also won their last match, 1-0 against Milton Keynes Dons.

In Alex Bass, Wimbledon can rely on one of the league’s safest pair of hands. He has kept 12 clean sheets in his 35 appearances this season, and only one other ‘keeper – Mansfield Town’s Christy Pym – has been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in League Two.

In Grimsby’s net, Jake Eastwood has three clean sheets in 15 games. He has conceded a goal every 56 minutes, 50% more often than the 85 minutes between goals for Bass.

The Dons are in mixed form in League Two, with two wins and a draw from their last six games.

With a win and two draws over that period, Town’s form is slightly worse – they have taken five points from 18, compared to the hosts’ seven.

With 45 goals in 33 games so far this season, the Mariners are scoring at below the league average rate with 1.4 goals per game. And they are conceding more than average, letting in 60 goals at a rate of 1.8 per game.

Wimbledon are also below average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.5. They have conceded 1.1 goals per game.

In the last three years, Wimbledon and Grimsby have played each other on three occasions. They won one each, and they drew once.

Their last meeting was on August 5, when they played out a 0-0 draw.

Tuesday’s match will be refereed by Daniel Middleton, who has taken charge of nine League Two games so far this season, issuing one red card and booking 34 players. He has awarded two penalties.

The last Wimbledon game Middleton refereed was a 4-1 home win against Tranmere Rovers on September 30. He is yet to oversee a match featuring Grimsby this season.
