WHEN the season kicked off in August, Notts County were favourites for the title. They had the budget, the players, the celebrity manager.
Macclesfield were the division’s poor relations, promoted against all odds with resources that wouldn’t go far in National League North.
Yet it is the Silkmen who have triumphed, and all thanks to a man written off in many quarters as an eccentric.
Sol Campbell arrived with it all to prove, not least thanks to his frequent public protests at a lack of opportunity.
