IT WAS a full-blooded contest which was a dour watch but perhaps underlined just what was at stake between two sides who sit third and fourth in the table.
With both playing direct styles chances were few and far between but both sides largely cancelled each other out.
The referee didn’t help matters by being overly pedantic and Notts had a legitimate penalty appeal turned down when Shola Ameobi was fouled which led to Kevin Nolan being sent to the stands.
