OLDHAM Athletic could do a lot worse than give the manager’s job to current caretaker Richie Wellens.
Financially, he’ll be cheap. He knows the league. He’s got fantastic contacts. Just this week, he chucked out the name of Sir Alex Ferguson, with whom he worked at Manchester United. Rightly or wrongly, that will always melt a director’s heart.
Above all, though, I’ve been in dressing rooms with Richie and he’s a great kid – a really bubbly character who will get people playing for him.
