Mike Dodds off the mark at Wycombe Wanderers as Cameron Humphreys and Daniel Udoh score

Mike Dodds claimed his first win as Wycombe boss at the third attempt as they beat 10-man Bristol Rovers 2-0 at Adams Park.

Cameron Humphreys and Daniel Udoh struck to leave the Chairboys second in League One, five points ahead of Wrexham.

Wycombe, who had drawn their last three matches, started the better and could have gone a goal up inside the opening five minutes, as Dan Harvie’s cross nearly caught out Rovers keeper Jed Ward, who was on hand to tip it over the bar.

The hosts continued to show their dominance against a struggling Pirates side flirting with relegation, as they had an onslaught of attempts.

Humphreys was denied by Ward, while Beryly Lubala saw his deflected shot go wide of the post.

Dodds’ side’s best chance of the half fell in a huge goalmouth scramble.

First, Caleb Taylor had his shot blocked before Josh Scowen and Lubala were thwarted by some last-ditch Rovers defending.

The opening half belonged to the Chairboys, the only thing they were missing was that cutting edge up top.

That was not a problem in the second half as they took control.

First, Humphreys’ deflected effort beat Ward in the 50th minute before Udoh’s second in as many games seven minutes later sealed the win.

Rovers lacked any attacking threat and their task was made even more difficult when substitute Shaq Forde was shown a red card for an awful tackle on Luke Leahy.
