Two of League One’s top sides face each other at Oakwell in Tuesday’s late kick-off, when fourth-placed Barnsley host third-placed Bolton Wanderers.

Barnsley have picked up 19 wins and nine draws from 34 games so far this season, and sit three points below the visitors going into the 7.45pm match.

Bolton, meanwhile, have won 21 and drawn six of 35, picking up 69 points.

With 64 goals in 34 games so far this season, Barnsley are the league’s highest scorers with 1.9 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 39 goals at a rate of 1.1 per game.

Bolton are also above average scorers, with 1.8 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.3. They have conceded 1.1 goals per game.

In Devante Cole, the Tykes have the league’s sharpest shooter so far this season. He has notched 17 goals in 34 appearances.

His goal rate of one every 167 minutes is slightly quicker than that of Dion Charles, Wanderers’ top scorer with a goal every 173 minutes, and a total of 13 goals in 29 games.

In the last 10 years, Barnsley and Bolton have played each other on 10 occasions. Barnsley won two of them, Bolton three, and they drew five times.

On average, the Tykes scored 0.8 goals and Bolton 1.2 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on February 3, when they played out a 1-1 draw.

The hosts are in good form in League One, with four wins and two draws from their last six games.

With three wins and a draw over that period, the away team’s form is worse – they have taken 10 points from 18, compared to Barnsley’s 14.

Barnsley’s last match was on Saturday, a 4-2 win against Wycombe Wanderers, with Conor Grant, Corey O’Keeffe, Donovan Pines and Sam Cosgrove getting the goals for the Tykes.

Bolton beat Cambridge United 2-0 last time out, also on Saturday, with Aaron Collins and George Thomason on the scoresheet.
