Match Preview: Wycombe Wanderers v Barnsley (Saturday, 3pm)

Barnsley face Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday seeking to protect their long unbeaten run in League One.

The Tykes are unbeaten in five, with three wins and two draws, ahead of the 3pm kick-off.

They face a Wycombe team who have won two and drawn one over the same number of games.

With 60 goals in 33 games so far this season, Barnsley are the league’s joint-second-highest scorers with 1.8 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 37 goals at a rate of 1.1 per game.

Wycombe, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.3 goals per game. They have also conceded 1.3 goals per game.

In Devante Cole, the Tykes have the league’s sharpest shooter so far this season. He has notched 17 goals in 33 appearances.

His goal rate of one every 162 minutes is much quicker than that of Luke Leahy, Wanderers’ top scorer with a goal every 336 minutes, and a total of eight goals in 32 games.

In the last 10 years, Wycombe and Barnsley have played each other on seven occasions. Wycombe won two of them and Barnsley five.

On average, the Chairboys scored 1.0 goal and the Tykes 1.3 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on November 28, when Barnsley won 1-0 at home.

The away team are fourth in the table after 33 games, of which they have won 18 and drawn nine, earning 63 points.

The Chairboys are 11 places behind Barnsley in 15th, with 10 wins and 11 draws putting them on 41 points.

Wycombe’s last match was on Tuesday, a 2-0 win against Cheltenham Town, with Joe Low getting the goals for the Chairboys.

Barnsley beat Derby County 2-1 last time out, on February 24, with Adam Phillips on the scoresheet.

Saturday’s match will be refereed by Dean Whitestone, who has taken charge of one League One game so far this season, issuing no red cards and booking five players. He has awarded one penalty.

He is yet to oversee a match featuring either Wycombe or Barnsley this season.
