DARIUS Charles has finally hung up his boots -three years and 36 games after a surgeon said the defender would never play again.
Charles had just signed for Wycombe Wanderers when he was diagnosed with a near total degradation of the labrum, the delicate cartilage that cushions the hip joint.
Surgery posed such a severe risk to his long-term health that, aged just 31, he was told to quit the game he loved.
Miraculously, though,
Charles battled his way back to fitness without going under the knife and eventually played 25 ...
