ROTHERHAM owner Tony Stewart says the Football League must “think deeply” about financial reform in the wake of Bury’s collapse.
The crippled Shakers this week became the first club to be expelled from the EFL since Maidstone in 1992 – and might have been followed by Bolton Wanderers but for a last-minute takeover.
Both had relied on director loans to cover losses, which over time saddled the clubs with unsustainable debts.
It is a system used by clubs throughout the EFL – and one which Stewart believes will lead to further catastrophe.
