Match Preview: Leicester City v Queens Park Rangers (Saturday, 3pm)

Leicester City host Queens Park Rangers in Saturday’s match at the King Power Stadium looking to bounce back from defeat last time out in the Championship.

The Foxes, who sit top of the league after 34 games, fell to a 3-1 away defeat to Leeds United on February 23.

They face a QPR side who picked up a win in their last match, a 2-1 victory against Rotherham United, and who sit 21st in the table.

With 70 goals in 34 games so far this season, Leicester are the league’s highest scorers with 2.1 goals per game. And they are conceding fewer than average, letting in 29 goals at a rate of 0.9 per game.

QPR, meanwhile, are below average scorers, with 0.9 goals per game, compared to a league average of 1.4. They have conceded 1.3 goals per game.

With Mads Hermansen between the sticks, City can rely on one of the league’s safest pair of hands. He has kept 11 clean sheets in his 33 appearances this season, and only two other ‘keepers – West Bromwich Albion’s Alex Palmer and Leeds United’s Illan Meslier – have been able to prevent the opposition scoring on more occasions in the Championship.

In Rangers’s net, Asmir Begović has nine clean sheets in 34 games. He has conceded a goal every 71 minutes, 80% more often than the 129 minutes between goals for Hermansen.

The Foxes are in reasonable form in the Championship, with four wins and two losses from their last six games.

With three wins and two draws over that period, the visitors’ form is slightly worse – they have taken 11 points from 18, compared to the home side’s 12.

Saturday’s match will be refereed by Andy Davies, who has taken charge of 13 Championship games so far this season, issuing one red card and booking 50 players. He has not awarded any penalties.

The last QPR game Davies refereed was the 2-1 loss away at Sheffield Wednesday on December 16. He is yet to oversee a match featuring Leicester this season.
