FRIEND BLOW FOR WOODGATE

MIDDLESBROUGH head coach Jonathan Woodgate has confirmed that club captain George Friend could miss the next three months through injury.
The left-back, 32, suffered thigh and hip problems towards the end of last term, forcing him to miss the club’s entire pre-season programme.
He recovered enough to make two league appearances this campaign, but has now been ruled out until February.
Woodgate said: “We took our time with George, but it was a snowball effect, and in a sense it was unavoidable because of that.
