GARY Bowyer has explained his reasons for handing Hope Akpan the captaincy at Bradford. The new Bantams boss worked with Akpan, 27, at Blackburn and felt he was the right person to lead the team against Peterborough last week. “I wanted someone in the middle of the park who could influence all units,” Bowyer said.
“He captained the team very well and I felt he grew into the responsibility with his performance.” Akpan added: “It was a great honour to be named captain. My message to the players was to really go for it and fight right through to the end...
