OUT: Elijah Adebayo

MATT Bloomfield says Elijah Adebayo will be a “massive” miss for Luton after the striker was ruled out for the rest of the season.

The 27-year-old suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) knee injury during last weekend’s 1-1draw with Leeds and underwent surgery this week.

He will now embark on what the club has called a “lengthy” period of rehabilitation and is unlikely to return until 2026.

“I’m so disappointed for Eli,” said Luton boss Bloomfield. “He’s been working incredibly hard recently in training and I think we were beginning to see the best of him again. He was growing in confidence and really helping us with the courage he was showing.

“I was proud of the way he was playing and I thought against Leeds last weekend he was unplayable at times. He helped create the goal and was leading the line with Carlton (Morris) brilliantly.

“We are so disappointed, first and foremost for him, and also for us, as a management team and as a football club, because he’s been a massive player for us and we are going to miss him a lot.

“But I know he’ll work incredibly hard to get himself back, with the support of everyone at the club.”

Adebayo has netted 47 times in 182 games since joining from Walsall in 2021 and was the Hatters’ second-highest scorer with ten goals during last season’s relegation from the Premier League.

In a post on the Luton website, Adebayo said: “I’ll be working tirelessly on my recovery and can’t wait to return stronger. For the time being I’ll be supporting the boys from the sidelines. Thank you to my team, the staff and the fans for your support – the love you show means everything.”
