A FRESH TAKE ON FOOTBALL

HAVE A GO: Millwall match-winner Josh Coburn shoots at goal in the 1-0midweek victory at Sheffield United

THE importance of Josh Coburn to Millwall’s unlikely bid for the play-offs should not be underestimated.

Since the on-loan Middlesbrough striker returned from injury in February, the Lions had won five of the nine games he had featured in pre-weekend -and Coburn struck the decisive goal in three of them.

Had injuries not restricted the 22-yearold to just ten starts this term, who knows how much higher Alex Neil’s side would be?

One thing is certain: whether Millwall go up or not, signing Coburn on a permanent deal will be a priority this summer. Neil has openly admitted the club are keen.

Coburn -understandably -has been rather more coy.

But it is plain as day that a 6ft 4ins targetman does not fit into the fluid attacking system that Boro boss Michael Carrick prefers on Teesside, and equally clear that Neil is prepared to build his frontline around Coburn.

Assuming a fee can be agreed, it is a move that makes sense for everybody.
