MICHAEL SET FOR CRUNCH MEETING

MICHAEL Appleton is hoping to be offered the Shrewsbury job on a permanent basis this week.

The former Oxford and Lincoln boss was appointed on a short-term deal until the end of the season after Gareth Ainsworth quit to join Gillingham last month.

The 49-year-old had drawn one and lost three of his four matches ahead of the weekend’s fixtures, with the Shrews doomed to relegation from League One.

But Appleton says he is already making plans for next season’s assault on League Two ahead of a meeting with director of football Micky Moore and chairman Roland Wycherley.

“We’re due to sit down next week, I think it’s Tuesday, to discuss what potentially could happen,” he said. “It’s something that hopefully will be a positive discussion.

“I love being on the grass, that’s what I do best. The feedback I’ve been getting from players, staff and fans has been positive.”
