SO SHARP: Blades striker Tyrese Campbell shows off his award

MODEST Sheffield United striker Tyrese Campbell insisted he couldn’t take all the credit after being named the Sky Bet Championship Player of the Month for March.

The 25-year-old former Stoke forward scored in four of his five games and his run and cross made the winning goal in the Sheffield derby.

“I’m thankful for the award but it needs to be shared with the whole squad,” he stressed. “We bring the best out of each other, we know each other’s strengths and weaknesses s and fight for each other until the end, as you see out there every week.

“It is amazing to come into a team like this and it has been a fresh start for me, one which I have relished.”

Lincoln City attacking midfielder Jovon Makama, below, bagged the League One prize. A beneficiary of the Imps’ switch to 4-2-3-1, Makama shone wider on the right, using his pace, putting balls into the box and finding space himself for the stellar figures of five goals and three assists in six games. His haul included a hat-trick in the 5-0romp against Bristol Rovers.

“I’m playing with confidence and know that every time I go out there on the pitch I’m able to make a real difference and help Lincoln City win games of football,” said the 21-year-old, who has since been sidelined by a hamstring injury.

Imps boss Michael Skubala a added: “His physicality and power is magnificent and he was,unplayable at times last month – but the crazy thing is he can still improve and his challenge is to maintain this standard on a consistent basis.”

In League Two, Bradford City midfielder George Lapslie, below, held sway. The 27-year-old was directly involved in six of his side’s nine goals, scoring four courtesy of braces against Cheltenham and Colchester.

Bantams boss Graham Alexander said: “We are all delighted for George to win this award. He has worked extremely hard since joining in January and his scoring contribution to our results has been incredibly valuable to us.”
