LEEDS United defender Pascal Struijk has been ruled out for the rest of the season and will also miss the play-offs if the Whites fail to secure automatic promotion from the Championship.

The Dutch centre-back hobbled off in the closing stages of last weekend’s 1-1draw with Luton and Leeds boss Daniel Farke warned supporters that he feared the worst.

Now scans have confirmed the 25-year-old has broken his foot.

“I can officially confirm that the season is over for him,” Farke said at his media briefing on Friday. “It is a fracture in his foot. Thank God, he doesn’t need surgery but he will definitely be out for about ten weeks.”

There was better news, however, regarding the fitness of winger Dan James, who had scored 12 goals and contributed nine assists before picking up a hamstring injury in the 1-0victory over Middlesbrough in midweek in which he scored the winner.

The Welsh international missed yesterday’s clash with Preston at Elland Road but could feature over Easter.

“It will be a tight race, but we will try everything to make him available for these games,” added Farke.
