BURTON Albion head coach Gary Bowyer is keeping his feet on the ground, despite seeing his side move out of the bottom four with a win over Huddersfield Town.

A brace of goals from Rumarn Burrell and Julian Larsson’s strike helped the hosts climb out of the drop zone.

“It’s fantastic.” Bowyer said. “We’ve sent the fans home happy today and I’m delighted about that.

“Ru Burrell was a real menace today with his running and for him to get into double figures since January 1st is unbelievable.

“It shows the magnitude of his efforts and those of his team mates too. The message is now that he needs to kick on.

“Last time we played Huddersfield, we had to defend 17 corners and today I don’t think they have had a shot on our goal, and that was down to our togetherness and work rate.”

Albion had the bit between their teeth from the off and were in front after just nine minutes. Anthony Forde’s deep corner was headed back into the six-yard box by Udoka Godwin-Malife and Burrell was there to poke home from close range.

The Brewers continued to look dangerous with JJ McKiernan’s energetic runs from midfield seeing two efforts denied inside the penalty area.

A third chance came to McKiernan on the stroke of half-time only for Josh Ruffels to clear off the line. Substitute Dylan Williams kept the attack alive as Larsson coolly slotted in his first goal at the Pirelli Stadium. Burton added a third after 55 minutes, Burrell tried his luck from 25-yards and got a deflection off Jonathan Hogg to beat Lee Nicholls and rack up his tenth goal of the season.

A lacklustre Huddersfield side had no response as The Brewers cruised to their biggest win of the season with defeat for

Bristol Rovers seeing them move out of the bottom four for the first time since September.

For Huddersfield interim head coach Jon Worthington, it was a chastening afternoon as the Terriers showed little sign of propelling themselves back into the play-off mix.

“That is not acceptable in any shape or form. I have told the players that as well.

“I don’t have the answers as to how they can turn in a performance like that, and I am extremely disappointed at this moment in time. Today was not good enough.”
