Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl said he wants his side to get as many points as possible despite seeing their play-off hopes fade in recent weeks.

Sam Long’s 79th-minute goal was enough to secure a vital three points for the relegation-threatened Oxford United.

Protests from the Wednesday fans relating to Dejphon Chansiri’s running of the club took place as they watched their side suffer a third league defeat in five games.

However, the focus for Rohl was on the performance and how his side reacts to the defeat.

Rohl: We are making life very difficult for ourselves

He said: “We tried our best today.

“We had some good moments, but sometimes it’s hard when you’re playing for nothing.

“It’s frustrating to concede from another set-piece.

“It hurts and it makes me angry to lose 1-0 at home again and again.

“It is tough at the moment for the group and for me, but this is football.

“When we win, we celebrate together, and so in the games we lose we have to suffer as a group together.

“We are still creating chances, but we have to be more clinical.

“I don’t make excuses; this is my job, and in the end, we have lost again, and we have to ask ourselves why.

“I can’t explain why we have struggled so much at home recently.

“If I knew the answer to that, I would try to change something.

“We aren’t playing so badly, but football is about the small moments and outcomes and results, and we are making life very difficult for ourselves at the moment.

“There are still four games left and we need to get as many points as we can.”
