STAR MAN

KAMARI DOYLE Crawley

CRAWLEY Town manager Scott Lindsey wanted his players to take the plaudits after they ran out emphatic winners at Rotherham.

Kamari Doyle was the star man for the visitors with goals in each half to bag Crawley a huge victory in their late bid to stave off relegation.

Lindsey said: “It could not have gone any better than it has.

“I saw a performance last week that gave me encouragement and training all week. I fully expected to win, but 4-0is brilliant and it could have been more.

“The players have been outstanding since I came in. I can’t take the credit for that. The players are the ones out there doing it.”

Doyle rattled the woodwork early on with a free-kick before deservedly giving Crawley the lead after he fired into the top corner from the edge of the box following good work by Armando Quitirna.

Rotherham came close to drawing level when Jonson Clarke-Harris hit a post from distance just before the break, but it was their only meaningful attack. Doyle was celebrating again early in the second-half as he was picked out by Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and after working himself some space, he smashed into the bottom corner.

He could have had a hat-trick moments later, but this time could not get a proper connection on his effort.

Crawley continued to push for more goals and substitute Gavan Holohan netted after he shrugged off Hakeem Odoffin before lifting the ball expertly past Cameron Dawson.

The visitors rounded off the scoring with three minutes to go when Panutche Camara was on hand to finish off another slick move.

Rotherham fans chanted for the dismissal of manager Steve Evans and left the game early in their droves.

He said: “The fans have watched an abject performance.

They don’t want to hear my apologies – they want performances to be right.

“I will always protect my players, but I think a lot of them have not got credit in the bank at this football club. Maybe my credit will run out, I don’t know.

“We defended poorly. Our players have played with a really heavy weight on their shoulders.

“The facts are they have not played in a Rotherham United fashion for much of the season.

“We won’t make excuses. I offer my apologies. The performance was limp and way off the minimum standards.”
