CHARLTON manager praised the contribution of Tyreece Campbell after his side swept aside Huddersfield.

The 21-year old impressed at the Valley, scoring twice and helping the hosts to their eighth straight win at home.

Further goals from Matty Godden and Greg Docherty keeps the south east London side well in the playoff hunt, but Jones was happiest at his forward.

He said “Tyreece is a young player learning his trade. We’ve had a year with him, he’s developing and there’s plenty more to come.

“He’s a joy to work with, every day he works hard, he has a smile on his face.

We love him. We have to keep him grounded and he has to respond. Which he has.

“From start to finish, I don’t think you’ll see a better League One performance than that.

“I don’t want to over-egg it, or be disrespectful to anyone, but that was complete.

“We were outstanding in both sides of the game, our press, our energy, how we moved the ball. To be fair, their keeper had an excellent game, but 4-0didn’t flatter us.”

STAR MAN

TYREECE CAMPBELL Charlton

It took just 30 seconds for Charlton to make their mark in a game they dominated throughout.

Thierry Small pounced on a loose ball from Huddersfield defender Radinio Balker, and was able to deliver a cross into the box for Godden to direct home with his head.

The hosts looked good value for their early lead, and doubled their advantage in the 17th minute – Luke Berry found Campbell, who fired in low from just inside the box.

After the break, a 53rd minute low drive from the lively Campbell was too much for the busy Lee Nicholls, who was beaten for the Charlton third.

And the fourth, which arrived on the hour mark, saw a Docherty shot hit the bar then hit Nichols – summing up a wretched lunchtime for Huddersfield. Interim head coach Jon Worthington struggled to find any positives.

“We started really slowly, it was a disappointing goal to concede, and the lads never really recovered from that,” he admitted.

“I’ve been honest with them, they’re an honest group anyway, we didn’t win any first or second balls which was very disappointing.

“The response after the first goal never happened, and that was the frustrating thing.

“You can accept conceding a goal but it’s how you get back in the game.”
