CALM: Mousinho

Portsmouth may have bucked back-to-back losses and pulled out a seven-point lead over the bottom three to ease their relegation fears, but John Mousinho doesn’t want his players or fans to get carried away.

Pompey defeated Championship play-off chasers Blackburn Rovers 1-0 thanks to Josh Murphy’s firs half strike.

The home side held on for the three points to further strengthen their bid for survival, seven points clear of the relegation zone with Derby County set to play on Wednesday.

However, Mousinho isn’t satisfied, urging his squad not to get carried away and to keep delivering the required results.

Complacent

The head coach said: “It is a big win, there is no doubt about that, and I don’t want to dampen the spirits.

“We needed that on the back of two losses.

“We need to learn our lesson that there are clubs at the bottom who are going to pick up points and wins – we have seen it with Plymouth and Luton and other sides.

“It is going to be incredibly tight and sides are going to pick up points.

“We have to make that irrelevant by doing the job ourselves and not get carried away by things we have managed to do.

“We have seen how quickly things change, so we need to be right on it with everything we do, not get complacent and keep picking up points.

“The second we will relax is the moment we are mathematically safe.

“I am delighted with the result today and the performance was good in patches.

“I thought we did just about to win the game.

“There is plenty we can do better, but the nervousness that we displayed after going a goal up was married with the occasion and how we have been in the last couple of weeks.

“But at this point of the season, it is about winning.”
