Swansea City caretaker boss Alan Sheehan was delighted with a point in a dramatic 2-2 draw against Leeds United, but admitted it could have been more, such was his side’s “efficient” endeavours.

The Swans held the Championsip promotion-chasing side to a draw late on thanks to a stoppage-time effort from striker Zan Vipotnik.

They had trailed early on in the opening minute of the game, a scrappy goal by Brenden Aaronson, before Illan Meslier gifted the visitors an equaliser from a corner, dropping the ball to allow Harry Darling to finish.

The French keeper, who saved Josh Tymon’s earlier penalty, was at fault again for the winning goal after Willy Gnonto had put Leeds back in front.

Excellent

“A point is the least we deserved – we were tactically excellent,” Sheehan said afterwards.

“We had a nightmare start and went 1-0 down, but we kept going, and it was a high-quality pass for the equaliser in the dying moments.

“Leeds are one of the best teams in the league – if not the best – and it’s the toughest ground to go to.

“But Joe Allen played that pass into Vipotnik, and it was wonderful to see the two substitutes combine.

“To come here and get a point shows the belief and the togetherness that we have in the camp right now.”

The draw leaves the Swans sitting in 16th position – a comfortable seven points above Derby in the relegation places.

Next up for Sheehan’s men is a home tie against the Rams – and the chance to move closer to safety.

They host bottom club, Plymouth Argyle, four days later, meanwhile, and wins in both encounters will all but secure Championship football for another season at the Swansea.com Stadium.
