Coventry City have catapulted themselves into play-off contention as of late, but manager Frank Lampard made no complaints about his side after a 3-1 defeat to Championship promotion-chasing Sheffield United.

The Sky Blues had won 10 of their previous 12 league games prior to their match against the Blades.

However, Gus Hamer’s sublime free-kick, a neat effort from Tyrese Campbell and Rhian Brewster’s finish helped secure the victory for the home side.

Jack Rudoni grabbed a consolation late on for Lampard’s side, but it was not their day, as the English manager reflected on the performance afterwards.

Disappointing

He said: “We started pretty well against a good team, moved it well and showed some real confidence in how we want to play.

“Not too many chances, but football can be won and lost in critical moments – a quality free-kick.

“They were more clinical, and they were better than us in both boxes.

“In the middle of the pitch, I thought it was a good trade off.

“But you’ve also got to handle losing.

“You can’t keep winning, so understanding why we lost, understanding the details, then focusing through to the Burnley game [next Saturday] will be key.

“It’s disappointing for sure, but it’s important everybody is very positive.”

Lampard added he was “a bit concerned” after revealing Oliver Dovin could have sustained knee ligament damage in a challenge with Blades striker Campbell, which saw the Sky Blues goalkeeper carried off on a stretcher before half-time.

He said: “We don’t know yet.

“It looks like a knee injury.

“We’re assessing it at the minute.”
