Regardless of whether he racially abused Burnley’s Hannibal Mejbri, Preston North End must be looking for a way to offload problem striker Milutin Osmajic.

The 25-year-old Montenegrin has already served an eight-game ban for biting the neck of Blackburn Rovers’ Owen Beck.

Now he is back in the dock after being charged by the FA in relation to the alleged incident involving Mejbri, which occurred during last month’s 0-0 draw with the Clarets at Deepdale.

Osmajic denies the claims and he may yet be cleared.

Loose cannon

But the word is out.

The striker is a magnet for trouble, a loose cannon that opponents will seek to antagonise and provoke at every opportunity.

With two years left on a lucrative contract, he will not be easy to shift, especially if the Mejbri verdict does not fall in his favour.

And let’s be honest – if he was scoring 20 goals a season, Preston wouldn’t care about his indiscretions.

But he isn’t, and a club of their modest resources can ill-afford to pay a player who can’t actually play for a fifth of the season.
