Charlton Athletic have boosted their goalkeeping ranks ahead of the end-of-season run-in by snapping up the experienced Dean Bouzanis.

The 34-year-old has joined the promotion-chasing Addicks on a short-term deal until the end of the campaign.

The Australian was on Liverpool’s books early in his career and enjoyed a loan spell at Accrington Stanley before joining Oldham in 2011.

He had stints in Greece, Australia and the Netherlands before returning to these shores to join Sutton United.

Experience

Bouzanis helped the U’s win promotion into the EFL in a successful stay at Gander Green Lane before moving to Reading in 2022.

His game time proved limited with the Royals and he had spells on loan at Sutton and Stevenage before his Reading contract was cancelled by mutual agreement last month.

“Dean’s been training with us now for the last month following the injury to Ashley (Maynard-Brewer),” Charlton boss Nathan Jones told the club website.

“With the precarious nature of the emergency loan market, we felt it was better to sign someone who we’ve had in the environment and Dean’s done very well since coming here.

“He’s got real good experience, he’s fitted in with the group really well and he provides real good competition for what is already a good goalkeeping department.”

Bouzanis added: “It’s an honour to be here and an opportunity that I’m looking forward to with this fantastic group that’s fighting at the right end of the table.

“Hopefully we can do something special come the end of the season.”
