LEEDS FIGHTBACK SHOWS THEY’RE MADE OF STERNER STUFF

I’M sure a lot of Leeds fans will be worrying about a repeat of last season’s collapse, but I think the 2-2draw against QPR last weekend was a massive result.

Taken in isolation, it was a great point. Any time you go 2-0down so early in a game, you’re more than happy to come away with a draw. It probably felt like a win.

Had they lost, it would also have been two defeats in a week, coming off the back of a 1-0loss at Portsmouth. That would have been very difficult going into an international break, whereas they’ll now come back in a much more positive frame of mind.

Psychologically, though, it’s even bigger. As every Leeds fan knows, it was a 4-0defeat at QPR last April that really dashed their chances of automatic promotion, and they eventually finished third before losing to Southampton in the play-off final.

A lot of the same players were on the pitch at Loftus Road and when they conceded two early goals it would have been natural to think ‘Oh no, here we go again’.

But they didn’t. They fought back, they kept their composure and they even had chances to win the game. I think that sends out a really strong signal to everybody that Leeds are a different animal this year.
